Department Overviews
Emergency Department
- The ED is a credentialed level 3 trauma center that offers 24/7 coverage.
- The department monitors and meets the JCAHO standards for organ donation.
- The number of visits to the Emergency Department each year is approximately 24,000.
- There are 11 beds in the ED. Seven of which are monitored and used for acute/emergent patients. Of the 4 remaining beds there is one for OB/GYN, one for Ocular Trauma, and the remaining 2 beds are for non-emergent cases. There are also 5 beds in Fast Track that are used in non-emergent cases.
- The annual operating budget for the ED is $2,455,000. The budget for the Ambulance Department is an additional $1,100,000.
- There are 42 employees that work in the Emergency Department. An additional 28 employees work as part of the Ambulance Department.
- Our Emergency Department is unique because it includes a hospital based ambulance system. The paramedics follow a patient through their course of care in the ED and work as a staff member of the department. The ED at BAMC is also unique in the aspect that patients cannot be diverted. When the ED census is high, they must be managed here (the nearest Emergency Department is 57 miles away in Green Bay).
- The ED is considered part of WHEPP Region 3, a consortium of hospitals that interface for preparedness issues such as bioterrorism, flu pandemics and other large scale emergency scenarios.
- The ED works with a trauma consortium (RTAC - the Regional Trauma Advisory Council) that drives state trauma care goals and standards (STAC - the State Trauma Advisory Council).
- Currently there is not any new, state of the art technology in the ED. Construction of a new ED is being discussed. Updating the technology of the ED and managing the construction of a new, enhanced department will be challenging.
- The Physicians in the Emergency Department exhibit a strong work ethic. There is an excellent Physician/Staff rapport.
- Patient satisfaction scores measured by Press Ganey have reached the 95th percentile.
